Along with Lori and Tobia, Sal Taylor Kyd is a recent discovery within my "artist inspiration", but someone I am incredibly happy came into my vision. Much like Lori and Tobia, Sal's work has really effected my way of photographing. Sal's ability to capture delicate moments in a harsh way and heavy moments through lightness, is really impeccable. Her use of light within her work is a common thread throughout all of her series. I would say my favorite series of hers is "Hold Tight". I love this work because it is about children, but doesn't necessarily always show an actual child. Most of it is very metaphorical, which inspires me a lot. With the current self portrait series I am working on, Sal's work has been a huge help in conceptualizing photographs that tell a story - but not too literally.
