Laurie Toby Edison...wow. The first time I saw her work, I was nearly brought to tears. Her most extensive series I found was "Women en Large" which was portraits of women who were seen as "less than" due to their weight. This series was so well done, in my opinion. This series could have been incredibly exploitive, but the way Laurie photographed these women, it made all viewers feel a sense of belonging within this group of women. The photographs of these women truly encapsulate the new idea that "fat" isn't a bad word; if used the right way. I plan to look back to Laurie's work for inspiration as I continue to photograph women and myself. Her work is truly beautiful and raw and real and I absolutely love it. I only hope to photograph women with such love and vulnerability as she has.
