Robbert Mapplethorne's work is something that deserves recognition for so many reasons. Not only is his work absolutely beautiful and thought-provoking, but it pushes buttons - which I love. His work is incredibly risqué and powerful. Most of his photographs are documenting gay men, but a lot of it is also up-close portraits of the nude, male, figure. Since I rarely photograph men, I would love to one day be able to photograph them in a way that is as raw as his and portrays men in the sculptural way that he has done.
