Dani and Beni were born on November 16th, 2012; exactly 14 years after me. I have known Dani and Beni since they were tiny, preemie babies in the NICU in south Mississipp; six years later, I had the chance to photograph them. Aside from sharing a birthday with these beautiful girls, I have a deeply rooted connection to them both. I have always felt a draw to the twins around me, and Dani and Beni are the perfect example of that. Before these photographs were taken, I hadn't seen them since they were about a year old and yet, the moment I was in their presence, I knew magic would be made. I spent about an hour photographing these girls and I was in disbelief by what I was able to create. I knew, even in the moment I was taking them, that these photos would be close to my heart forever. I ended up falling so in love with what we made together that I decided to pair that with my twin fascination and continue this series for a photography project for class in Savannah, Ga. Although the end result of that series ended up going down a more documentary route, I owe Dani and Beni the world for inspiring an ongoing series that is focused on studying the connection between twins. I plan to continue to visit Dani and Beni over the years and strengthen a bond with my birthday twins and create a body of work that they can look back on for the rest of their lives.
